Once her stem and root system are established, Roots sheds the remainder of her shell, and anchors himself into the ground so that she may now receive nutrients from the soil as well as from her regular diet. This is a key stage in her development, as she needs to grow as much as she can before she reaches adulthood. Since this is the closest to an actual plant she will ever be in her lifetime, she needs to be placed in rich soil in order to gain as much strength as possible. It is at this point that her sweet-smelling flowers are beginning to bloom.
